The COVID-19 pandemic brought unanticipated worldwide chaos. Every nation around the world is doing its best to contain the virus. To date, COVID-19 has infected millions of people across the globe. The number of infected persons and deaths increase every day. The disease has affected people from all walks of life. Even celebrities were not immune to the virus, showing that no one is safe from it.
Here are five celebrities who have tested positive from the COVID-19 virus.
P!nk
Popstar singer P!nk on April 4th announced her contracting the COVID-19 virus. In her Instagram post, P!nk emphasized the severity of the disease. She also pointed out how the “young and old, healthy and unhealthy, rich and poor” are greatly affected by the circumstances.
P!nk made a demand for mass testing for the detection of the virus. She calls it the government’s “absolute travesty and failure,” for not making testing accessible to everyone. P!nk urges her fans and social media followers to stay home, stay safe, and prevent the spread of the virus.
Her post also spoke about her family, including her three-year-old son Jameson, exhibiting symptoms of the virus. P!nk’s family is in self-quarantine for almost two weeks, as advised and instructed by their doctor. A few days after, P!nk confirmed that she and her family already retested. Fortunately, they tested negative from the illness.
J.K. Rowling
The author of the best-selling Harry Potter franchise made an announcement on Twitter about her COVID 19 symptoms. Rowling spoke that despite the symptoms, she does not want to get the test. Her reason for that was there’s a scarcity of testing kits, and she doesn’t want to use it up! J.K. Rowling’s full recovery from the virus is great news. She confirms her recovery through Twitter while thanking her fans for the good wishes and kind messages.
Sophie Grégoire Trudeau
Justin Trudeau, the Canadian Prime Minister, announced last March 2020 that his wife, Sophie Trudeau, was tested positive for the coronavirus following their trip from the United Kingdom.
Since Sophie’s symptoms remained minor and mild, she refused to get tested. This was her attempt at not wasting the test kits, as the number of kits available is very less. Instead, the Prime Minister and his wife decided to practice 14-day isolation as per doctor’s recommendations.
Prince Charles
Even royalties are not immune to the worldwide spread of COVID-19. Heir to the British throne, the Prince of Wales and Duke of Cornwall, Prince Charles, was diagnosed with COVID-19 – as per the statement released by the Clarence House on March 25th, 2020. The 71-year-old crown prince experienced slight symptoms of the virus and remained healthy. On the other hand, his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, tested negative.
Prince Charles and Camilla are working from home and undergoing isolation in their home in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It was also in Scotland that the two royals got tested for the virus. Due to the number of social engagements that the prince went to in the past few weeks, it could not be singled out where he contacted the virus. The royal acknowledged how the COVID-19 pandemic brought the frustrating and distressing experience to everyone as our contact with families and friends is limited. He pointed out how hard it is for all of us to drastically change our way of living because of the virus. The Prince and the Duchess sympathize with those who lost their loved ones and those who are currently fighting against the illness and the loneliness of isolation.
Kevin Durant
As confirmed by Brooklyn Nets’ general manager Sean Marks on March 17th, 2020, four of Nets’ players tested positive for the COVID-19 – including basketball star Kevin Durant. Even though Durant stayed asymptomatic and remained in good health, Marks affirmed that Durant and his teammates underwent 14-day quarantine. He was strictly practicing social distancing to prevent further spread of the virus. Marks said during his conference call with reporters that Durant and all of the Nets team are coping in the best way they can to combat the illness. As of the moment, Marks confirms that there are no plans for the players to undergo retesting.
At this challenging time, the COVID-19 pandemic shows us that celebrity or not, health is wealth, and no one is safe from the virus.
