The 92nd Academy Awards is just around the corner. Popularly known as the Oscars, the awards are a recognition of excellence in cinema. The voting membership of the Academy decides the winners. Different categories of winners get the Academy Award of Merit or a copy of the golden statuette.
The AMPAS in the year 1929, during a private dinner hosted by the American actor and director, Douglas Fairbanks, gave the first award. The 92nd Academy Awards ceremony will be honoring the best films from the year 2019. February 9, 2020, that’s the date for the awards night, do mark your calendars. Joker, the comic drama starring Joaquin Phoenix in the title role, leads the nominations list with 11 nods. Others like The Irishman, Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood and 1917 has grabbed ten nominations this time. While Little Women, Parasite, Jojo Rabbit, and Marriage Story have earned six.

Tom Hanks for A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood, Joe Pesci for The Irishman, Anthony Hopkins for The Two Popes, Al Pacino again for The Irishman, and Brad Pitt for One Upon A Time…in Hollywood have nominations in the performance by an actor in a supporting role category.
Nominations for the Lead Actress
There are five nominations for leading actress award. It includes Renee Zellweger for biographical drama Judy, Saoirse Ronan for period drama Little Women, Cynthia Erivo for biopic Harriet, Charlize Theron for biographical drama Bombshell, and Scarlett Johansson for drama film Marriage Story.
Actress in a Support Role
Nominations of actresses in a supporting role go like this Margot Robbie for Jay Roach-directed Bombshell, Florence Pugh for coming-of-age drama Little Women, Kathy Bates for Clint Eastwood-directed Richard Jewell, Laura Dern for her performance in Marriage Story, and Scarlett Johansson for comedy-drama Jojo Rabbit fighting it out amongst themselves.

Nominations for Directors
Directors who have earned nominations are Martin Scorsese for The Irishman, Sam Mendes for 1917, Bong Joon Ho for Parasite, Quentin Tarantino for Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood, and Todd Philips for Joker. The best documentary feature nominees are American Factory, Honey Land, For Sama, The Cave, and The Edge of Democracy.

For film editing, the nominees are Thelma Schoonmaker for The Irishman, Michael McCusker, and Andrew Buckland, Tom Eagles for Jojo Rabbit, Yang Jin-mo for Parasite, and Jeff Groth for Joker. Hildur Gudnadottir (Joker), John Williams (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker), Thomas Newman (1917), Randy Newman (Marriage Story), and Alexandre Desplat (Little Women) have received nominations in the original score category.
The ensemble of nominations for original songs includes Stand Up from Harriet, Into the Unknown from Frozen II, I’m Standing With You from Breakthrough, Love Me Again from Rocketman, and I Can’t Let You Throw Yourself Away from Toy Story 4.
Best Motion Picture of the Year
The Best Motion Picture Of The Year nominees is The Irishman, Little Women, 1917, Once Upon A Time…In Hollywood, Marriage Story, Ford V Ferrari, Jojo Rabbit, and Joker. The best animated short film nominees are Kitbull, Sister, Memorable, Dcera, and Hair Love.
