A majority of you might fancy comic books, don’t you? Needless to say, it’s easy to thrive on comic book movie adaptations when they hit the big screen. Even though this is a boom period for such movies, 2019 can be hailed as the inception of a new era for this particular genre. If you’re discussing blockbusters, you’re in for a set of brand new releases soon. However, the road is not all that smooth for some ventures as some extremely anticipated flicks such as the Mad Max sequel, The Raid 3, and Boba Fett, and many others have met their fate and bore the brunt. Their releases have been unexpectedly canceled. The following are some of the most anticipated comic book movies that have been canceled.
Alien: Covenant’s Sequel
According to several reports, Alien: Covenant’s sequel was canceled in 2017. However, there were talks about its revival and rumors about a renewed script and a denouncement of its cancellation started doing the rounds in 2018. As per social media reports, the franchise was all set to see the light of the day. Then named Awakening, the flick was anticipated to have its big release soon enough. But as fans were waiting for an announcement, Fox declared that there wouldn’t be an Alien movie coming out currently. Though Disney has acquired Fox and is capable of churning out blockbusters, expecting its release sometime soon would be a mistake of sorts. In all probability, a highly-skilled creative team is the order of the day.
Silver Surfer
Many fans were in for a shock when the release of Silver Surfer was canceled. Just a few days back, Adam McKay was penning down something for a future project, and this sudden change wasn’t at all welcomed by people. Fox was going at breakneck speed to have this flick released. However, there was something else in store, and Fox had slowed down its advancements around the movie. The release has been canceled as Disney laid its hands on Fox and Disney’s reluctance regarding taking the movie off the ground seems to be a prime reason. But, a possible release in the future might be on the cards.
Gambit
Channing Tatum has been excited and over-enthusiastic for this project, and that seems to be the only constant factor for the movie. Doug Liman, Rupert Wyatt, and Gore Verbinski are the three directors who have been associated with the film, but the comedic love story has resulted in nothing. Gambit was another project from the Fox Marvel factory, but the recent acquisition by Disney has led to the cancellation of its release and now the film stands nowhere. The merger has proved to be hazardous and fans are feeling deprived. It remains unclear whether Disney would give Gambit a green signal in the future at all.
Klonoa
Dream Traveller is a popular animated movie that might not have gained much ground. However, to manga fans, it was a well-known name. In 2016, it was announced that an adaptation of the film was in progress. As time went by, no details about the movie were ever discussed or released. Despite much follow-up, nothing accurate was ever known. It is now being said that it is a dead project. After two years had passed in between without any advancement, the writer, Hitoshi Ariga, released a confirmation that the project has expired. Twitter was in for a shock and why not? Fans were in high anticipation but were heartbroken as soon as the confirmation went public. Really unfortunate, to be honest.
X-Force
As soon as the release dates of Deadpool 2 were announced, Fox confirmed that they were busy working on an X-Force flick. Drew Goddard was supposed to be the writer and director of the third film in the popular franchise. Ryan Reynolds was supposed to make a comeback and fans expected that Logan’s X-23 would star as the new Wolverine. However, nothing of that sort happened. Although there hasn’t been an official confirmation about the release of the movie, people have lost their homes as the film has very little chance to stick around.
Even though, these flicks might not be on their way to hit the big screens, a few more exciting projects are on the way and are waiting to enthrall you with their captivating and gritty scripts. But, before that, have some patience. Good things will come, hopefully!
